(S)Necromancer

The resurgence of magic also brought back some of it’s darker elements. Necromancy, considered by some to be the strongest school of magic it is also the most easily twisted. Not all necromancers are evil. Some practice it in order to protect those they care about from the undead. But it takes a strong will not to step into madness.

Tips:

Preparation Is Key: Early on you are weak, but you can prepare before a battle. Chose a ranged weapon to use when you run out of spells, and choose spells you can use in combat. Your party will like that there are extra targets for the enemy to hit, but they won’t like it when you tell them all you have are basic attacks because you wanted to be able to create new undead if needed.

You Can Always Rebuild: Necromancers keep a large amount of minions compared to other classes. There needs to be a line where you decide what is worth keeping, and what is worth losing. Choosing to use your weaker minions to stall as you and your stronger minions retreat is always a good strategy.

To Steel Or Not To Steel: Many of the basic minions for necromancers can be humanoid in shape. This means they can use the spare weapons and armor you find. But remember… if your squad of skeletons in platemail falls the next time you see your enemies they may have some fancy new gear.

Uhh, We Don’t Serve Your Kind Here: Yes, the local graveyard is full of fresh corpses. It’s also full of excuses to run you out of town or kill you. While the most useful undead are humanoid in nature, your average town won’t run you out of town for a undead dog. Regardless of what you bring though, don’t expect to be well liked. If you believe this may be an issue for you, you might want to make Charisma a priority.

Fate And Charisma: Necromancers require many good stats. Constitution for defense, Intelligence and Wisdom for spells, Fate for higher level undead, and Charisma for numbers. Chances are you won’t have the stats to max all your skills. When considering whether to have a higher Fate or Charisma you are deciding whether you want a undead abomination or an undead horde.
